How can I prepare myself for Welcome Week?
I want to have an amazing and memorable Welcome Week, so what should I do to make that happen? Thanks

Come out with an open mind, prepare to do silly things with people you don't know, and PARTICIPATE. I can't stress that enough... it doesn't matter how lame or silly you find any of the event or activities, participating will make everything as awesome as it can be, and it will also get the people around you to participate with you.

Do ALL the activities planned for you.
DON'T sit in your room and sulk/nap/watch TV/play video games.
FORCE yourself to talk to people. EVERYONE is in the same situation as you.
Be prepared to do things that make you look ridiculous.
If you're shy, FORCE yourself to come out of your shell. At LEAST for first week!

Don't feel pressured to do anything, whether it be drinking, a joint or making out with someone you don't know in the dark (meningitis is a real and severe threat).
Remember that it's okay to be yourself and that if you're getting a hard time for enjoying yourself and participating in the stuff that you're a part of, then you can walk away from company you don't like.
This is university, not high school. No other person has the power to make this experience a nightmare for you - remember that.
Don't be ashamed of being who you are, whoever it is. If it's received as lame, then the people who are perpetrating those comments applied a year too early.

I agree with the advice to not do things you're not comforable with, etc but I've never agreed with the excuse "you could get sick". Meningitis can be caused by so many different things, that worrying about it is simply not worth it. Risky behaviour can result in unwanted consequences, regardless of what those consequences are.

I lol'd at this one. What were YOUR experiences?
It's already been stated, but by participating, you meet more people, and do more silly memorable things.

By forcing myself to go to all the events (they all sound interesting anyway ), and talking to anyone and everyone .. that's my plan anyway, and afterall, you only get one first impression, so best to make it good from the beginning

I had over 20 of them chips then ended up with 5 because I got greedy.
(btw, to first years, they had a raffle where each chip would be a ticket last year)
(also I recently lost 125 USD in blackjack and roulettes... I don't think gambling's my forte D: )
