Are you sure the certificate is for being on the dean's honour list and not something else?

Yes, Dean's Honour list and nothing else. Maybe you've never even been registered at McMaster...

I definitely got a certificate for DHL, so I'm positive you get one

I was actually considering that it could be, but that would seem highly unfair for everyone else.

Can't be. I'm in Humanities and I've gotten one every year too. They also give you a booklet with all the awards for the faculty and your name is in it under the DHL

I wonder if that booklet can be found online?

Has anyone been attending these award ceremonies? As far as I can tell, they haven't gone down since my first year, and I was too sick to attend ):
But what I mean is....can I chalk this up to my own carelessness and poor publicity? I haven't heard anything about these ceremonies, has anyone actually been there? Or perhaps they're done by faculty or department...and maybe since I'm in a fairly small department, we got shafted.

I lived on residence this past year, and was really bad about checking my mail. When I finally got around to checking it, I had an invite to the awards ceremony, but the date had already passed. :(
So they definitely happen, but I'm pretty sure they are done by each faculty separately.

yeah, probably done by each faculty.
And since Science and Eng are the largest faculties, I would wager that they don't hold these ceremonies for those two faculties.

I get the letter for the ceremony each year but I never go. Too lazy. That's pathetic isn't it?

Not in the least. Celebrating your achievements is highly overrated anyway.

Thanks for your answers guys.
Yeah I'd be in the science one which presumably cheapened up over the last few years, haha.
I remember going to one though, 3 or 4 years ago, so I was wondering why they randomly stopped...faculty got too big I presume. They'd waste a fortune feeding everyone (especially if I was attending haha)

In a related manner, when would this appear on the final grade report? I actually improved a few percentage points this year, yet the "Deans' List" notation is missing. Is this because I cancelled one course?
