New Personal Finance Course
New Degroote School of Business Course
Open to all non-business students wanting to learn finance!
By Chad Fullerton
Recently the School of Business sent out an e-mail regarding a new course open to ALL non-commerce students if you are interested in learning about finance but haven't gotten into the commerce/business stream. This is great because we all will need to know personal finance in our futures (credit and debt management, stocks and bonds, personal insurance and risk management, home purchases and mortgages, retirement planning, and wills and estate planning). Very helpful indeed

Dear Students:
The Finance & Business Economics Area at DeGroote School of Business is offering a course on personal finance (Commerce 4FP3) beginning in September. Open to year 3 and year 4 students in programs other than Commerce or Engineering & Management, this popular course builds on the very popular Personal Financial Management course offered to Commerce students within the School of Business.
This personal finance course is specifically designed for students who do not have any formal preparation in subjects like finance, statistics and accounting, While the course will introduce students to some of the mysteries of the stock market, its primary goal is to provide them with an introduction to personal financial decision-making. They will be shown how to set practical personal financial goals and then take steps necessary to achieve them.
Topics to be discussed include credit and debt management, investing in stocks and bonds, personal insurance and risk management, home purchases and mortgages, retirement planning, and wills and estate planning.
For more information, please contact the Chair of Finance and Business Economics, Trevor Chamberlain, at [email protected] ter.ca or the Commerce 4FP3 instructor and finance undergraduate student advisor, Sherman Cheung, at [email protected]. THE COURSE IS NOW FULL!
Quote:
To Students who are interested in Commerce 4FP3:
Both sections of Commerce 4FP3 are currently full. We are making attempts to increase the course capacity. At the same time, more
sections may be added, if necessary. This process will involve the Office of the Registrar and the Associate Dean’s approval.
Please be patient if you cannot get into the course now. The problem is expected to be sorted out within a couple of weeks. If additional
seats/sections are added, students who are interested will be able to register using SOLAR.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Sincerely,
Dr. Cheung
