All day classes?
Hi!
I've picked all my courses for fall but all my classes are in the day. Never the less, I was allowed to take them. Is there a possiblity that conflicts in class timing will arise? I'm either not allowed to modify some of my courses or the evening ones are full. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal?
Also, I'll be in Life Science I. If I don't plan to specialise in pschology in my second year, does the core of my pschyology 1X03 elective matter if it is just an elective? I see it's availabe in the evening but core C01 is full.
I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times before.
Thanks a lot!

You can check and see if there are conflicts now if you go to the Master Timetable here https://adweb.cis.mcmaster.ca /mtt/. Also, when you get your timetable in early August, its made so that there are no conflicts. But if in fact you do have conflicts, itll show up on your timetable.

And yeah, psych will be used as an elective if you don`t need it for whatever you wanna major in later.

Don't worry...you'll find that most people have all of their classes during the day. In Science I especially, I found that most lectures are during the morning, while afternoons (after 230) are (basically) for labs/tutorials.

As for your second question...I'm not 100% sure how IntroPsych is working this year, but the "core" of a course is just the lecture. Courses have multiple cores in order for more people to be able to take it. The biggest lecture hall at Mac seats about 600 people; you can only imagine the problems that would occur if a course like Chem 1A03 was only offered once per year. Sometimes, the same prof will teach multiple cores (Dr Lock usually teaches a few first year chems each term), or sometimes there will be a different prof for each core (this happens for a lot of courses), or sometimes a course will have different profs each teaching a portion of the content to every core section (happens a lot in biology). As for IntroPsych last year, each core listed in the timetable had a different "tutor" - an upper year TA who facilitated the in-class portion of the course. If the course is run the same way this year, the difference between cores (besides the obvious time differences) is which TA is leading your class.

Hopefully this helped at least a little (or didn't confuse you any more).

Phew. So I guess my timetable should be fine.
Right. And about the psychology core, I guess I can take any core then?
Thank you so much

Hi
I acutally have another question. It just occured to me that I wasn't asked to pick my core, lab and tutorial components in any of the other courses besides psyhcology and science 1A00. So I don't know how to make my time table. Does that mean I will be assigned classes randomly?
Thank you!

when the tiemtable comes out on aug 7th, you will have been assigned core classes for each of your classes and you can see which ones you have according to the schedule. If you don't like the way the schedule has been assigned to you, you can always go back on SOLAR and change it as long as there are spots avaliable.
