				Am I reading this right?

Because as much as a trust my eyes and my brain to transfer what I see into logical data, I'm still having a hard time believing this:

Since I was a wee prospective student picking my courses and major, I've been conforming to the data on the program websites about requirements, leaving my options open to go into either Soc Sci or Hummers.

Now, I just checked the website last night, because I compulsively check it [and also I was looking to see how many second year programs were open to be] and they required averages have changed.

Ok, averages change from year to year, they just updated them to reflect what they want for the next academic year.

But a CA of 5.0? And a 5.0 in two level 1 courses of your major?
Before it was 6.0 CA and 7.0 in 2 level 1 courses.

I'm kind of surprised how low it became. Is anyone else??

I was just for one course. So, it definitely alleviates the stress, since now I already have the prereqs.
I was just a bit surprised how low it actually dropped, is all

It probably has something to do with demand. I'm not insulting these programs at all (I should insult mine, ha. haha. haha. haaaa.), but there's just not as many people applying to these level programs, so in order for them to continue to exist, they would have to be more lenient in acceptance.

It's not as surprising as you might think, though I understand why it would be.

Why do you want to satisfy the bare minimum, aim for a high GPA and get those free scholarships.

Well, I'm obviously going to try and get the highest marks I can, but it's nice to know that I don't have to be all stressed the whole time because one of my marks was not as high as it could have been last term

Maybe you've confused the b.a admission and the honours b.a admission - just a thought as to why there is a change.

 Gee thanks for that.

But, to answer your question: I didn't go to university right after graduation.

This was a recent change. In a nutshell, the reason it was changed was to make it easier for students who have a hard time transitioning from high school to university to make it from level 1 to level 2. The min C.A is now a staggered system so making it to level 2 is a bit easier but it gets progressively harder to get into each subsequent level.
Here's a link to the meeting materials from the Senate meeting where it was presented: http://www.mcmaster.ca/univsec/mtgdo...AGD_110112.pdf (page 20)

You know nothing about the faculty, in terms of the job marketplace those with mediocre marks will not get jobs/ or will get mediocre jobs. The job market for us is one of the more competitive markets, having a 3.7/4 GPA is pretty much mandatory with volunteering to get an interview with the top 4 accounting firms and into a good finance position.
