The mealplan basic component is the same for ALL meal plans.
This past year it was $2900
The only difference on the size of the mealplan is the amount of Freedom dollars, or offcampus money that you get (which carries over every year, and can be used as an off-campus student).

As such, the size of the mealplan that you get actually doesn't really matter!
Especially if your parents are paying for it! It just means more late-night pizza, or dinners with friends at Kelsey's or ESM! =)

That's correct. Except the basic component is actually 1900 and something, not 2900 .

If you don't really want a meal plan, just get the "light" one.

All you have to do is spend 1900$ in 8 months. That's like 8$ a day. The meal plan will be useful for days when you don't want to cook, during midterms for example. You can also go out with friends to places off campus where they accept the meal card, like boston pizza and east side marios.

It really is useful, but you'll definitely have to complement it with groceries and such. Nearly everyone I know had to either add money to their account or start cooking on their own near the last few weeks of school. On the other hand, I had extra money left over that I had to spend on the last day. So really, that depends on how much you spend on a regular basis.

Between Bridges and Indian Night at Commons, a meal plan isn't such a bad thing to have (I loves me some chili on flatbread and paneer!)
