Hi Everyone,

Has anyone ever used Athabasca University to complete any of their courses? I was planning to take physics 1b03 over the summer with Athabasca and I just wanted to know what it is like or if anyone has taken physics with them before?

I have taken a Math course, and found it very hard. But that is mostly because I did not have a lot of background for that type of math.

You have to remember a lot of the material is self learning, so you have no prof to teach you. They do provide a tutor to which you can e-mail/call and ask questions.

They give you a text book as well as a decent example book. Other than that overall it should be pretty easy.

You just have to do assignments and 1 or 2 test depending.

I personally found it hard trying to figure out my course, however The midterm is similar to the assignments they provide you.

I'm not sure if they changed it, but last year in order to be equivalent to Mac's Physics 1B03 you have to take both PHYS 200 and PHYS 201 with Athabasca. This is what I did this past year and it was definitely not worth it.

I ended up spending a lot more money then needed (around 1400 to take both courses) and it definitely took up a lot of time because it is a lot of independent learning and I hated doing the at home labs (they send you a lab kit and you have to find some house materials to do the labs with).

Doing it at Mac saves you money and time, so I wouldn't recommend taking it at Athabasca, especially if you need it completed within a certain time frame because they're also really slow at getting your midterm and exam marks to you and calculating your final grade.

Has anyone taken the equivalent for bio2a03 through Athabasca? There is also a lab component for that and I'm worried it'll be a huge hassle to get my own materials for something like that.
