I'm guessing it depends on the course you want to assist. They all have different requirements. But yes, they do get paid.

Yes, it's paid. And most positions I've heard about require a 9+ in the course, but I would say you need a 10 or more to be competitive.

here is another question, can you be a TA on classes you never took?
for example someone who did really well in physics 1B03 and wants to be a TA in physics 1L03. Or someone who did well in math 1AA3 and wants to be a TA in math 1LS3, you get the idea.
is that possible at all?

It entirely depends on the department. Each department has their own rules for TAing and whatnot, so it would be best to contact them specifically. I've never seen undergrad TAs in first-year math courses...that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but it would be pretty rare.

Do you know when applications come out for bio, life sci or psych courses? And what their websites are?

What year do you have to be in? To teach a level 1 corse, do you have to be in fourth year or can you be in third?

It depends on the department. For example, in Political Science, all the TA positions are reserved for Masters and PhD students. But in the Geography department, most of the TA positions are offered to students who DON'T have an undergraduate degree.
For the bigger departments (Math, Engineering, Science), they have more TA spots to fill, so they will probably let younger years in. I know someone who TA'ed in their third year for Engineering. You just have to check each application and see the requirements.

For the averages mentioned above, are those the cumulative averages or the average for that particular course?

Averages for that specific course. Although, a high overall GPA doesn't hurt either

As Kathy mentioned, it depends on the department. I know for first year Bio courses, TA's had to be done at least 2.5 years, while some second year Bio courses required 4th-yr students or Master's/PhD.

That's good to know; the averages for most of my courses were pretty good, but I did terrible in one course and it dropped my GPA a lot :(
Does anyone know the requirements for TA-ing first year chem (lab or tutorial) and first year psych? For psych it seems like they only hire PNB or BioPsych students
