Try to get your resume critiqued by the SCCE before hand and go for a mock interview. Having that prep under your belt cannot hurt and *may* give you an additional edge.

Yup. I've gotten a critique already, earlier in the year since I took science2c00. Which program are you in by the way, Bushra? I'm just in core bio atm, no specialization ;(.

Well, each resume should be tailored to the job/position you're applying for, so another one definitely wouldn't hurt. I am presently in Bio III (no specialization) but will likely be transferring back to Chem Bio

Traditionally, there have been 50-60 applicants per year, but there's really no way to know. That being said, the maximum number is ALWAYS 20, and if fewer people apply, they may not take a full complement of 20 students.

Oohhh, that's still pretty competitive. I heard that this program was once a joint program between bio and health sci. Is that no longer the case?

Yes, you are somewhat correct..however it is between the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Health Science. You may have thought it was a blending of the two specific programs (biology + health sci), but it is actually unique and cannot quite be compared to either! does that answer your question?

Ooohh I see  . What kind of degree do we get out of this program? Is it like Biopsych where it is essentially two degrees? |

It is basically as close to a "double major" that you can get in the Faculty of Science. Throughout your three years in the program, you must complete 27 units from the Biology course list in addition to all of the first and second year bio prerequisites, and 33 units of Pharmacology.

Ohhh, does that mean we can minor in either bio or pharm, since a minor is 24 units in any subject right?

No, you can't take a minor in either of those, they are technically your majors. You must take all the pharm courses and bio courses, as outlined in the calendar.

Oooh, gotcha. I've never written a cover letter before. Feeling pretty inexperienced. If I write my cover letter, would i be able to get that critiqued as well, in addition to my resume?

Good luck to everyone who's applying. It is competitive but sooo worth it. your marks may suffer in 3rd year, but you'll come out so much stronger, and your ability to analyze papers, write lab reports, and perform cool experiments, all these will give you an edge after graduation. I spent my first co-op term in Montreal and now in the states, which I never thought I could do in undergrad.
I was in Neuroscience and Behaviour in my second year, don't worry if you don't have all the requirements, it never hurts to apply. =]
