When Can We Find Out What Books We Need for Our Courses?
Are the same books used every year? Or do we have to wait until August when we find out our schedule? Or the first week of class? I wanted to get a jumpstart and buy some of my textbooks now, but I'm not sure which ones I will need. Any help is appreciated

Check titles website or course outlines, books can change yearly, depending on prof and/or mood of prof

It comes up on the Titles website (titles.mcmaster.ca) sometime in the middle of August. It's not a good idea to get your books now. I know it seems exciting and everything and you want to have everything ready, but it's not a good idea, at all. It's best to wait until after the first lecture or so, when the prof talks about the required/optional books, what editions he/she uses, etc. And that's when you should be buying them. The first week of school is only a Thursday and Friday so you'll have the weekend and even the following week to get any books you need. Not only will it save you money, but you'll be able to find used books and such.

Okay, but I was told that it was a good idea, and I agree, to get at least one book prior to classes starting so I can get a headstart on my notes and such. So I guess August is the best/ only time to get that one book?
I'll probably wait to buy the rest of them.

Last year I bought my books before school started and I found it helpful. During Welcome Week I didn't have to wait in endless lines, knew I had all my books (they ran out of some last year... I think bio1a03), and could relax knowing everything was settled.

What I would recommend though is just buying the required books for now, and wait on the optional. It is likely you will never ever use the optional.

Other than that, I'd say go for it. Just call Titles to make sure textbooks are in. I went late July/early August last year and they weren't in, so I had to go in again.

I usually don't even end up touching most of my textbooks, but it's nice to know that they are there

This.

Even once the fall term is available through the Titles Bookstore website you should just wait until you've gone to all your classes and the professors talk about the textbook(s) you need. Depending on what you're taking, there are classes that you can do without the 'required' textbook
