Cancelled course on transcript?
So I'm in my 4th year of Life Sci and I decided to take a course to fulfill a science minor (only needed one more course so I thought why not), but now due to a failed midterm I may actually end up failing the course. I checked the deadline for dropping a course without failure and apparently it's Novemeber 10th for this year so I am seriously considering just dropping it. I can deal with the financial penalty and I have taken some summer courses before so my credits would be fine. My concern is what having a cancelled course would look like to potential future employers, esp one in my 4th year? I am also considering applying to professional/grad schools so I'm nervous that they'll see it and think I just gave up.

Any advice would be great.

It will have CAN for grade. That's it. It will not affect your GPA or chances for grad school at all.

I had two cancelled courses on my transcript and I'm currently in dental school. I know a guy in med school who had four cancelled courses in UG. Fails on your transcripts will harm you whereas cancelled/withdrawal courses will not, unless they state you must carry a full course load for all years.

1 Cancelled course usually doesn't change your Full Time student status.

No it doesn't change your full-time status but it changes your full course load status. If OP doesn't take an extra course next semester, he/she won't have a full-course load for the academic year, which could impact grad school/professional school applications.

Don't bother applying to professional/grad schools if you can't pass a 3rd year class in science.

Employers don't know what a transcript even is. Give them your graduation average.

Don't agree with that statement. There are plenty of people in professional school/grad schools that had problems with certain courses in undergrad. It's the amount of effort you put in that matters and how you learn from your mistakes. I didn't have a stellar transcript, nor did I nail my 3rd/4th year science classes but I worked hard and ended up in professional school. Few people that I know in med school at Mac failed a few classes and still made it. OP, keep working hard and don't let a single course bother your chances for professional school.

I failed a course in my 3rd year. I was in a 5 year program, but still, the course was 3rd year level. Retook the course, got A+, got into grad school 2 years later.

Shit happens, and in 3rd year you still have time to fix it.
