Dorm fires are serious business. My roommate managed to set a pizza pocket on fire and we've banned him from using the oven ever again..

2 years ago, Hedden lost common room privileges because people were setting off too many fire alarms while cooking

Yep, it's actually a Hamilton bylaw, so it's bigger than just Mac residences.

It actually wasn't because of cooking

Actually, IIRC, someone almost burnt the place down because they left something in the oven. Can you say 4 am fire drills?

I hated Hedden. >_<

In 2008-2009? I can assure you that it wasn't just because of people who couldn't cook....

edit :: I mean the reason they locked the common rooms.

Keeping the door closed keeps the superheated air contained, slowing the spread of the fire and flames.

What caused the lock then?

I know one of the common rooms on my floor last year in Hedden was closed down, but I can't remember if it was for a fire related cause or just because it was vandalized....maybe both
Regardless, it was locked for some reason, and this meant I had to get to my common room earlier so I could watch LOST on time
There were also a lot of fire alarms in Hedden as well, but more from people smoking I believe...
