Thanks for the clarification. My question still stands, though, but with "put on probation for two weeks" instead of "suspended."

I wouldn't call it a probationary period nor a suspension.

I am currently on a leave-of-absence as House Leader for the purposes of campaigning.

However, before the campaign started, a recall procedure was started against me which failed. The Assembly chose instead to give me a two-week period to prove that I can execute my YearPlan and work on overall professionalism.

So... a probationary period. Sorry to seem curt or anything, but...

pro⋅ba⋅tion

–noun
1. the act of testing.
2. the testing or trial of a person's conduct, character, qualifications, or the like.
3. the state or period of such testing or trial.

Phoenix says thanks to InYoutoGive for this post.

I still don't think that answered the question that AlienSummer asked. Ultimately it is a warning that the SRA delivered to you with a period of time given to improve - in other words a probation. As an SRA member I'm not sure how I can trust that said behaviour will not continue based on a couple of incidents since then, however, how can an MSU member feel confident as asked above?

AlienSummer, Phoenix all say thanks to McIntyre for this post.

Getting back to platform-related questions, I'd like to discuss an issue that was raised earlier in this thread but which I don't feel has been fully addressed. I don't mean to harp on the same point, but I feel that this issue is fairly important.

Casey -

On Saturday, I asked you a couple of questions about your "... Less Fees" promise. In response you told me that the platform point involved bringing all of the fees listed in sections 2.2.2 and 2.2.3 of MSU Bylaw 5 - Financial Affairs to referendum.

In my subsequent response to you (post #32 of this thread) I asked how and why you wanted to repeal these fees, given the nature of and circumstances surrounding each one. In the next post (#33) Dave Moore pointed out that the MSU doesn't have the power to "ditch" these fees, as (a) the University is unlikely to agree to a fee repeal, referendum or not, and (b) some of the fees are necessary in order for the MSU to fulfill its contractual obligations.

Unless I have severely misunderstood the situation, it does not appear possible for you (or anyone else) to follow through on this platform point. This was established on Saturday (four days ago).

I note that your platform was modified on Monday to remove your stance on the Coca-Cola referendum. However, the "... Less Fees" point remains. Additionally, you have continued to reiterate your promise (to hold a referendum on these fees) as recently as yesterday on your Facebook group.

I have two questions, though they are closely related:

1) Why has the platform point of holding a fee referendum not been modified or abandoned, even though four days have passed since the idea was shown to be unviable?
2) Why has your stance on Coca-Cola been removed from your platform (in response to student feedback), while your promise to hold a fee referendum has not (in response to its unviability)?

Again, I apologize for bringing this point back up again. That being said, I do feel that your answer to these questions is important.

Thanks.

Hello Casey,

In the debate you mentioned communicating with students "at the student level." I was just wondering what you meant by this exactly. I'm familiar with some of your platform points regarding communication (such as the 8 hour commitment), but what specifically will set your communication methods apart from those of past and present MSU Executives? Thanks

While I totally appreciate your reply, you didn't really answer the part of my question which I think is the most important.

The fact that a recall procedure was started is worrisome to me. You're running for President. What are you doing now to work on executing your Year Plan and your overall professionalism? How can I be sure, as a voter, that your professionalism isn't going to be a problem again next year?

This is an important question, and I really hope that Casey takes the time to answer it thoroughly and properly. There are a bunch of SRA members on this forum (myself included) who are more than qualified to explain the grounds for the recall. However, our explanations (or at least my explanation) wouldn't be likely to put Mr. Park in the best possible light. In the interest of fairness, it would really be best to hear from the subject of the recall motion himself.

While he's at it, I'd like him to address the issue that I raised regarding his proposed fee referendum. I spoke with Casey on Wednesday evening, and I was told that my concern would be addressed in a blog post on Thursday. Since today is Friday and nothing has changed, I would like to know why Casey is continuing to campaign based on a knowingly unfeasible (and thus arguably dishonest) platform.

I would say the same for Mr Park's point about Obtaining Waitlisting for MUGSI/SOLAR. That I believe from three separate meetings with people higher up in the UTS and Registrars office is an inaccurate claim simply because of the astronomical financial costs that will be required to implement and integrate onto the ancient current IT infrastructure we have. If someone is really insistent on getting it, we CAN but the CIO made it very clear that the current systems design for MUGSI can never handle new features like waitlisting. The costs will easily go upwards of seven figures. I did point that out on his blog post(and on Insiders thread for Kieran) 10 days ago, the post somehow disappeared.

Also, all of my above research was under the guise of Operations committee and myself and my commissioner and committee members are aware of this situation(Myself since a week before campaign period and my committee the day we had our Wednesday meeting and campaign period started). And since I spend my entire day in the SRA office I believe Mr Park could have run it by me, despite my preference to a rival candidate everything I do for the MSU is still public information!
