I hate whoever made that sheet comparing Google and Microsoft. I also hate you if you voted Microsoft. Google does everything better. This sheet is false advertising and doesn't include all of Google's capabilities. Whoever made that image has a hard on for Microsoft.

Windows live emails include ads IN THE CONTENT TEXT portion of the email. Enjoy your emails going straight to spam inboxes.

Gmail Chat includes GOOGLE VOICE which is FREE! calls to ANYWHERE in North America.

You are not going to use more than 1 gigabyte of storage in your email. Google docs includes uploading files as well.

Vote Google. Even if you're torn or literally are dumb enough to want to vote Microsoft please let me do the thinking for you.

Personally I voted google, but I was under the impression that the windows .edu email didn't actually include ads like the regular one.

I can guarantee you that the person who made that image doesn't have a hard on for MS, and is just going by the features advertised by the companies.

Microsoft's system sounds good on paper, even if it isn't as good in practice. However, its not as bad as you're making it out to be- there won't be ads in either system, this wouldn't be the same as using just gmail or hotmail. The Google interface is pretty much the same as Gmail, and the Microsoft one is pretty much the same as Outlook, but neither is ad supported for the educational version.

Also you're mixing up Google Voice, which is only available in the states, with Google Talk, which may or may not be in the educational version (although I'm like 90% sure that it will be, the fact that Google does not advertise that fact even though they want our business makes me question it. Then again, if Google were to advertise all the benefits of their system, it would take several pages).

There aren't many people who come close to me in terms of Google fanboy-ness. And even I'll admit that the Microsoft one is pretty decent. It might not be spectacular, but if MUSS gets replaced by Microsoft I'll still be happy.

Um, once the voting is over and they've decided on a system. When will it actually be implemented?

So what's going to happen to all the contacts that send you emails through your MUSS ?

I believe it would be set up in time for second semester.

Your email address won't change, it will still be [email protected]. So all those contacts can continue to send you emails without change

Hey again,

We are currently sitting at 3000 responses which is honestly amazing. So if you haven't voted yet go to www.NoMoreMailFail.co m and choose your replacement.

Both Micro and Google outlined that your email address will stay the same, and the emails you had in that address wont be lost. The plan following the survey is to begin getting our new email system set up for January.

In terms of features it looks like right now that UTS will just want the basic features set up, but that was why we asked you to rank the features you wanted with the survey so that they see the student demand in things other than simply an increased inbox.

As this survey has progressed the results have been constantly shown to the Admin and I think they are pretty shocked at how many people responded. I think they expected maybe 150-200 people at most...definitely not 3000!

As always as this thing progresses I will keep you all updated, and once again thank you for voting

I guess this just shows how much students were tired of MUSS/excited for Gmail/Outlook. If we had a similar vote involving MUGSI/SOLAR we could probably pull over 10 000 votes.

People would probably find ways to double vote, out of sheer excitement that MUGSI/SOLAR is changing

Hey I agree,

Personally in terms of surveys I think it's just a matter of asking questions we want to answer. The best part is that when we actually respond to these things in numbers it is powerful.

I get the impression most people voted for Gmail, but when will we know the results and when will it be implemented? I'm far too lazy to look it up.

Hey Brendon we will know the results probably by tomorrow, and it is supposed to be implemented by January. I will post the results on MacInsiders once they are released.

The results are in!

Of the 3504 votes cast Google Education Apps is overwhelmingly favoured 2462 to 1042 for Microsoft’s [email protected]

With a ratio of 70% to 30%, undergraduate students have made a decisive choice. From this point the MSU is now continuing to work with UTS and the projected launch is in second semester of this new system!

For those who do not want this system UTS has said they will keep MUSS running for students to continue to use it should they so desire.
