I personally don't follow any religion, but I don't think religion is all that bad. Rather, I think it's just more of the people themselves then the belief itself. I mean, from what I know, the background behind Christianity isn't all that bad - peace, loving neighbours, all that mushy crap etc. - (albeit, my scope is limited) but it's the fact that what's asked of people from these religious texts is beyond the human scope of nature. I mean, you can't expect people to behave; as long as there's an opportunity to step out of line, most chances are, people are going to do it.

I don't even think the texts are that bad (assuming you have a clear understanding of what isn't possible). No matter what people believe, there are always going to be retards that take it way out of control.

ah my bad, I maybe worded that badly. I mean, the religious texts may speak of things that are a bit unreasonable considering the normal human being based on the fact that we're greedy/gluttonous by nature, but yes the textual documents for the most part probably aren't all to bad. The bottom line is, as you've said, retards who stretch the context way past it's point.
