Classics 2LB3

This class is the continuation of Classics 2LA3 and focuses on Greece's interactions with the outside world. Alexander the Great and his empire is the main focus for the first half of the course. There is a lot of detail about Alexander's campaign across the Mediterranean world, his successors and what happened to his empire after he left it without an heir. The last half of the course is spent focused on the 4 main empires that emerged from the struggle of the successors: The Macedonian Empire, the Ptolemaic Empire in Egypt, the Seleucid Empire based in Babylonia and finally the Attalid Empire in Pergamum. The course finishes with the eventual take over of each of these empires by Rome but does not go into great detail about this.

Course Breakdown:
To come when I get home and find my old syllabus!

As a Macedonian and a scholar I am upset that this course is not offered this year (08-09). It would have been the perfect elective, now I know how those in Classics and the Humanities feel in terms of limited courses. If anyone would like, I can pass on some wonderful sites, articles, books, journals, etc, on Alexander and Macedonia.

This class is offered every other year, it switches with 2LC3 and 2LD3 which are Roman History classes. It was offered in 07-08 so if you still really want to take it, it will be available next year. It sucks that they can only be offered every other year but at least it's offered period, a lot of our other classes have been taken right out.
