Coach Canada Hamilton-Guelph Route being phased out
Right now the Coach Canada Hamilton-Guelph route is only running Tuesdays, and it will be phased out by October....

This really sucks for us that take this convenient route.

Does anybody know any public-transit alternatives available to get from Hamilton-Guelph?

I believe the GO bus/train goes there, but it takes a couple of transfers :(. http://www.gotransit.com/publicroot/...le/sysmap.aspx

I'm very sad about this. My twin sister goes to Guelph and it'll just be much more inconvenient to go visit her.

To the Go Bus it is...

Yep, my s/o goes there. Losing the route is like losing a friend. I have happy memories associated with that route.

The Spec did an article about this a few days ago: http://www.thespec.com/article/618744

so disappointing. CC was such a cheap, convenient and cheap way for me to get to Guelph.

I agree. This is totally lame. Isn't there anything we can do? Or maybe someone will be nice and and alter the Waterloo/Kitchener route and have it go around to Guelph somehow.

There's a facebook group up right now at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=1245492 56855

If there was some way to show those in charge that a weekend route to Guelph is still profitable, then maybe there is some hope.

We'd need numbers.

Does anyone know if Greyhound has a direct bus between the Universities?

Between Mac and Guelph? No.

There are links to Mac and Western though.

You can contact Compass and ask which routes Greyhound travels specifically: [email protected] ca

hey you guys. i emailed GO transit a few days ago regarding this, and got a swift response. good and bad news.

they said they're working on a route between guelph and hamilton, but it won't be in effect until early 2010 (if everything goes through well)

Quote:
Dear Mr. Hashemi:

Thank you for your e-mail requesting a GO bus service from Hamilton to Guelph.
GO Transit is aware that the service between Hamilton and Guelph has ceased. Currently, we are investigating the possible of a service between the above mentioned points. However, this service cannot be implemented until early 2010.

When planning and developing new routes, many different criteria are taken into consideration such as travel patterns, population density, resource availability, revenue and cost, as well as customer survey results.

Adjustments are not only determined by demand, but also by equipment and staff availability. We have limited resources to meet the ever-growing needs of the communities around us. Therefore, extra service must be prioritized by demand and capacity.

Your comments are appreciated and have been forwarded to supervisory personnel in our Transportation and Planning department for review.

We appreciate your interest in GO Transit.

Sincerely,

Esther Hamilton
Customer Service Representative
so it's only one term i guess? best bet is to take it to square one and from tehre to guelph.

I have an idea though! if anyone has a car or a means of transportation, we should start some carpooling thing between the two cities. I'm sure everyone will greatly benefit from this. I know personally I'll have a car some days so I can give people a lift to guelph university or the general area.

lorend says thanks to ali11 for this post.

Glad to hear that they're doing something about it! It's a matetr of one term :( sadly, but I really like the carpooling idea! And of course, there's the square one bus, or even union station >.<

I don't think it's just a matter of one term. My friend spoke to the GO bus people, and "early 2010" translates to april :(

Has anyone biked it yet? if so, how long did it take you?
