Combined honours or just honours?
I got accepted to both honours econ and combined honours econ and poli sci. I would like to apply to a minor in finance starting next fall. My goal is to get into law school or get an mba degree. which would you suggest going into? Honours econ with a minor in finance or combined honours econ and poli sci with a minor in finance?

Not that I am an expert in the subject but I have pretty much the same dilemma just different programs.

i think it would be pretty much impossible to do a combined program and still have enough electives to get a minor unless you took second year classes in first year.

I can tell you that your degree means very little for law school so I would take whatever you can get better marks in as your major. I don't know much about mba's but I would think they would care more about a degree that translates like econ or commerce. I would look into getting/transferring to a commerce degree in finance with a minor in econ or econ with a finance minor.

hope that helps.

You should be able to do a double major and still have a minor, but you'll probably have no room for other electives.
I'm doing a double major in History and Linguistics and was going to also have a French minor but decided against it to take some other electives I enjoy, like econ. Also, the requirements for a French minor are ridiculous. That definitely made the decision easier for me, if you don't want to take the classes required for a minor, you're going to regret using up all your electives for it.

I'm doing a double major too, and considered doing a minor but decided that it would be too hard to use up all my electives in one department so I'm just going to stick with the double. I want to get into law school too, and I know that they really like when you have a second language and they're also interested in stdents who have unusual double majors. Econ and poli sci certainly seem like unusual double majors to me because they don't really go together at all. I think your second option is better, although it's going to ehb really hard to do a double major AND a minor.

Good luck!

I'm doing a double major with a minor. If you look forward to having interesting electives every year, I say don't do it. My next 3 years are consumed by 4 English, 4 CSCT, and 2 History courses.

i plan on going to law school as well. my advice would be to not overload yourself with school, by doing the double major and minor. Its competitive as it is for marks alone, so it would be advantageous to focus on something you both like and can do well in. with that said, however, there is definitely not only one path towards law school.
