Contest to name the new Learning Management System

From McMaster Daily News:

As McMaster begins the process of migration from the existing [email protected] application to the newly selected Desire2Learn platform, it is fitting we choose a name for the new system. The Centre for Leadership in Learning (CLL) welcomes suggestions from all students, faculty, and staff. Please submit your name suggestion and a brief justification for your choice by April 30th, 2010. Submissions can be made via e-mail to [email protected] . The winning name will receive $50 in Tim Horton's gift certificates that are redeemable at any campus location. The CLL reserves the right to alter, combine or add to any of the incoming suggestions. For more information about the LMS, visit cll.mcmaster.ca

I submitted MAPLE, for "McMaster Advanced Platform for Learning and Education", 'cause you know, Elm and Maple are both trees and stuff.

...Well, I thought it was clever. =\

Wow that's actually pretty good! The only thing is...isn't MAPLE some software program used in engineering/math(?) classes? That would make things slightly confusing.

I submitted "Prata", which is Swedish for "talk". Don't ask about my Sweden addiction.

I think it should be called FAP - Faculty Access Platform.

the name should be " !elm "

software engineers will enjoy the name, which is nice because they aren't real engineers and they need something to be happy about

Indeed it is, first-year Eng needs to use Maple for 1Z04 and most of 1ZZ5. The easiest answer, of course, would be to abolish it and replace labs with real assignments so that kids will actually have a reason to do practice problems.

I just want to make a statement , this is such a ripoff . 50 dollars to Tim Hortons to name a learning system which thousands are investing into , they are saving so much money by not having a marketing company name it .

Well, 1Z04 and 1ZZ5 have been destroyed in favour of new classes called 1ZA3, 1ZB3 and 1ZC3, which are going to be like the classes that were around before 1Z04 and 1ZZ5 existed. Yeah for being the failed experimental year!

To play devil's advocate, I just sent a semi-serious suggestion.
