I really wanted a beginner's language course such as French 1z06 or Spanish 1z06, but after trying numerous times everyday, I still can not get in. Do you think if I wait a while longer a spot will open? Or do you think if I wrote an email to someone in the Humanities faculty, they will consider opening a spot for me?

Try to email the prof of that course. They might open a space for you. (If that is a core course of your program, they will open it for sure) Or consider course trading here in MI.

Keep trying on SOLAR. I got all 3 of the electives I wanted by doing that. Remember SOLAR opens again in July and that's a great chance to get what you want.

Emailing the profs may work but unless its a degree requirement they're not obliged to give you a spot. If you are emailing them, make sure you mention something like "I want to minor in _____" or "I'm looking at a future in _________".

Your best bet is checking SOLAR often, and you still have all through July and August, even the first 2 weeks or so of September. You can also try emailing the department, however, that doesn't really guarantee a spot, but it's worth a try anyway.
