Deffering a Midterm
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to defer a midterm or have it's weight added to the final exam.

I have one coming up this Friday but for a variety of reasons I don't think I will be able to write it, any ideas about what I should do?

Thanks

Yes, it's possible. I'm pretty sure each faculty has it's own steps to take on deferring an exam. Check the course outline. If it's not listed on there, check your faculty's website. Do this ASAP, it's always better to talk to someone earlier rather than later. You will need proof though, not just "I don't want to write it because reason a, reason b, reason c."

Apparently you can use the MSAF http://www.mcmaster.ca/msaf/ twice a term for adding things to your final exam. It's not really clear what they require from you though, it seems to be you jut fill it out and that's that.

Can anyone verify that?

Yes, it is most definitely possible.

I actually did this myself last week.

If you are missing under 4 days (which you are), you use this: http://www.mcmaster.ca/msaf/
click "I agree", sign in and follow the simple instructions.
All you have to do put which class it's for, what it is (midterm, etc), how much it's worth, the date you're missing (Friday), the professor's email, and what the reason for missing it is. It gives you 4 options: illness, injury, personal reasons, religious reasons. If it IS for illness, you don't need a note or anything, either. That's the beauty/simplicity of it.
You can only use this form twice a term, though. I'm not sure if you'd be able to fill it out NOW or if you'd have to wait til the date is closer (I filled out mine the night before my midterm), but you can definitelyy try doing it now and if the date of your midterm isn't listed as an option, try again tomorroww.

What I did after that was send my prof an email sort of explaining the situation and he had my final exam weight readjusted accordingly.

Wait a couple days AFTER the midterm date... then submit the MSAF form. And then enjoy your much harder version of the midterm than everyone else had.

It's indicated that the weight would be added to the final so I don't see that's much of a concern, gotta write the final anyway.

Lol. Most classes don't have rewrites, unless a reasonable chunk of the class isn't writing it.
It just gets added on to the final.

Also, the form says to do it AFTER the days you missed, but I don't think it matters if you do it before.
