Does anybody have any insight into whether the textbook is necessary/useful? Also what was the assignment like?

99% probably. If you study for the exam more than 1 day in advance you're wasting your time

Took this course in 2016, overall a very easy course. You will have like 6 online quizzes that you can do together, guaranteed to get a 90% minimum in all of these. Have one midterm, which is strictly based off of lectures which is great, so if you go to lectures and take notes you should get a 90% on the midterm relatively easily (1-2 days of studying). Exam is the same difficulty as the midterm, with some repeat questions. Very light workload, makes it a great elective.
