Earth Science 3CC3
Took this in Winter 2010 with John Maclachlan. He is a great professor. I can't remember the exact break down but it was something like this.
-4 assignments total 40%?
-1 Midterm 20%
-Exam 30%
^ Something along those likes. Either that, or there were 2 midterms and instead the 4 assignments were each 5%. I can't really remember.
We watched a bunch of movies on climate change: overall, made you feel very grim about the future of earth. This material was tested as well.
But the assignments were broad, and annoying and I felt like there were too many of them.
Though John MacLachlan was a great professor, I feel like he wasn't able to connect the lectures together. The lectures felt very disconnected and I couldn't get the overall point of the lecture from the last lecture to the next, and to make this connection, I needed the book.
The exam was fair. He gave hints beforehand, so make sure to attend the review lecture. He tells you the type of questions to expect. W
So I would say a decent course. It required a bit of work, but less than some of bio courses like 2nd year genetics. But it's tougher than some other enviros out there, perhaps the same level of workload as first year enviros.

It's worth noting that John Maclachlan is no longer teaching this course and the prof that is teaching it now is not nearly as good. I know several people that dropped the class because of who the prof is in fact.

Dr. Bernier is scheduled to teach this class next year, so it should be a good class.

I was also wondering how the assignments in this course were like. Specifically, what did you have to do?

Last year the assignments were research essays, but with a different prof I am not sure if the assignments will change.

3CC3 with Kim wasn`t THAT bad. I did alright at the exam was pretty easy. It was easy to ace but hard to get higher than a 10 in my opinion.

Make-sure you actually research your paper topics before writing. Those papers are worth quite a chunk of your grade so don't underestimate their importance.

WARNING
Took this course Sept.-Jan. 2011 with Bernier. Definitely was a challenging course. Workload was significant and textbook readings necessary to get decent on the quizzes. Bernier really ramped it up, as compared to previous teaching difficulty! Ten is attainable but 12 ambitious.
