Econ 1BB3 or English 1A03
Which one do you think is the better elective? Since I'm in Engineering, I already have a pretty heavy workload so I need a course which is pretty easy and will boost up my overall mark.

I like English as a subject and I did pretty well in high-school (got 90% in my finals). However, I've heard that it's really difficult to score high marks in English when you're in university. On the other hand, I've never studied Economics before so I don't know what to expect, but quite a few people have told me that Econ 1BB3 is pretty easy and doesn't have a heavy workload. I'm taking Econ 1B03 as my other elective, just in case I want to opt for Engineering and Management. Since the first 4 chapters of Econ 1B03 and 1BB3 are the same, wouldn't it make sense to take Econ 1BB3 so that I have a lighter workload?

What do you think? Like always, I appreciate your opinion and thanks for reading!

Seems to be you are leaning toward Econ. Go for it. I agree with everything.

Just keep in mind that if you do plan on going into engineering and management then in second year you are required to take econ 1BB3, but if you've already completed it first year then you'll have to take an elective in place of it. So it might be better to save the easier course for second year!

Never studied econ before either until I took it in third year summer, loved it so much that I regretted going into science. I stuck through it anyways and graduated and now I have a job but I still love econ a lot.

I would take econ to keep your options open for management. You can take english in future years as your electives.

The workload in first year engineering is very heavy, and english has a lot of required readings. Econ on the other hand does not have as much stuff, and basically no readings. I would go for econ.

I know a few people who took English as an elective in Engineering, and while you may enjoy it, with the weekly tests, assignments, labs, etc, you may not enjoy it very much when you have to read a few things a week/write essays for the course. At the same time however, 1A03 is poems and short stories, so there isn't that much readings, but I think it's a matter of making your life easier and taking Econ, which I hope you have some interest in as well! It also makes your life easier with management as other people mentioned.
