Econ 3G03
This is the first course where students are exposed to the mathematics used in economic theory. You will learn various optimization techniques, differential equations, difference equations and matrix algebra. It is comprised of three very fair term tests worth 17% each, and a difficult 49% final. If you do better on the exam than your term grade, the exam will be worth 80% of your final grade.
This course is a prerequisite Econ 4T03 and 4TT3 which are needed if you intend to study economics at the graduate level. Since this course is not required for honours economics students, the classes are fairly small.
The course is taught during the fall semester by Dr. Han. He is a great professor, however the nature of the course forces him to go through material quickly. He is very helpful during his office hours and after class. He is also great to talk to about graduate school and options available to economics graduates.
This course will be extremely difficult without a solid math foundation. As preparation, I would recommend taking math 1AA3, 1B03 and 2L03 at the very least.
