Elec Eng 3PI4
I took this in winter term 2015 with Dr. Chen.
The marking scheme for this course is,
34% -- 2 * mid-term
16% -- 4 * labs
50% -- final
This course is an electrical power introduction course, such as 3 phase network, DC motor, synchronous motor.
Before the first mid-term, you will be taught mainly focus in 3 phase network, such as 3 phase generator, 3 phase motor. And this is the easiest, fundamental part for this course, even though the average for the first mid-term was about 65%.
For the second mid-term, it will be quite difficult compare to the first mid-term, and actually a lot of people msaf it. It was mainly about electrical power for 3 phase transformer (i would say this is the most difficult part for this course), the average was about 53%.
In final exam, it was easier than the second mid-term but it was still difficult. And the exam was mainly focus on all kind of motors stuff such as DC motor, synchronous motor.
Maybe the prof thinks this course is too difficult, so that he makes the labs very easy. Basically you just go to the lab and follow the instruction, the TA will help you for the entire lab, and then you will get the full mark on the lab. Also, the labs were the most interesting and the most useful part for this course.
The prof is actually nice, if you did not go to the mid-term, you will be automatically considered to be msaf-ed, which means your mark for the mid-term will be moved to the final, so that you do not need to actually submit the MSAF.
Overall, in this course, it was barely involved circuit stuff except the motor part. All you need to worry is the power stuff such as phase diagram, the relationship among real power, apparent power, line current, terminal voltage, Y-connection, delta-connection. I will suggest that going through all the practice problems except those matlab questions, it would be helpful for your mid-term, mid-term questions will be quite similar to the practice problems but more difficult.
