Engineering Fail???
Is it true that 50% of students who take engineering first year Fail or drop out or swich program??
does this mean that they get less then 4.0 Gp and get kicked out?
if that is true then the avg for engineering must be around4.0 if 50% of students fail
plz tell me what you think about this topic, it got me really scared when i read it but the thread was closed
thanks for ur help

Pretty much, yeah. A lot of my friends dropped out, joined the army, and went to college
after either the first or second semester.
But don't let that get to you. Don't be scared and just do the work. Don't fall behind
and do the best you can.
Goodluck!

i wouldn't say 50%, but a from what i remember, the number of people that took the 3rd math test was significantly lower than the number who took the first one. Well that might have been chem.

First year eng tends to be really fast paced. Don't fall behind!

Yeah, it's probably not so high at 50%, for at least 30%.
But there are a bunch of reason people leave Eng, and failure's only one of many. There are plenty of other valid reasons for people not to stay in Eng. People switch departments, switch schools, or can't afford it, etc.
Something fun to do: next time you're in a lecture, look to the person on your left, then your right. Statistically speaking, either yourself or one of those people won't be around next year.

Averages don't work that way. For example, if 50% of students get a 0.0GPA and 50% of students get a 12.0 GPA then the average is 6.0. In other words, you can't determine the average for the year by looking at the drop-out rate.

Drop out rate is about 35% usually from what I found out from Sally Williams. She also said that it varies from year to year, which makes sense.

No, that's not what he means.
If your CA falls below 4.0 at the end of an academic year, you get a "may not continue in program" and you have to reinstate.

50% sounds too high 30-35% seems about right but some people don't just fail many find that Engineering isn't for them and switch to another program

It would be nice if more people got the boot, especially those that deserve it. I'm tired of smelly, cheating twats in my classes. Yes, I can hear you talking about how you cheated on the presentation of your code. Congratulations. Want a medal for being too stupid to do the actual assignment yourself?

Sorry, I quoted the wrong part of the post. The OP was asking that if 50% of engineers drop-out, if the average is 4.0, which is not the case (what I explained in my post).

again that 35% is likely not all fails - many are students who decide eng is not for them and drop out or switch programs.
