Geography 3LT3

This course deals with how transportation in our world works and how Geography is applied in measuring transportation in our everyday lives. It also studies how people make use of transportation to get through their life. Geography 2LI3 was the prerequisite for this course but because of the recent changes made by the Geography department, Geography 2LE3 is now the prerequisite for this course. I took this course in Fall 2013 on my final year in Mac with Dr. Antonio Paez.

Dr. Paez is the prof teaching this course and he is a pretty good prof. He explains things very well and always try to have class participation during his lectures which is very convenient and the course is very interesting enough to pay attention to.

The course itself consist of two lectures and one lab period. The lecture itself is pretty much the prof teaching the concept and sometimes he would discuss stuff that would happen in the lab. The labs for this course is not every week. There's usually a schedule of it in the course outline so it's easy to follow. It is only used to do lab assignments that are assigned and it happens in the GIS lab. The TA explains what goes on in the assignments and we just pretty much work on them.

There is a textbook for this course but it is hardly used, at least for me. But it is very helpful in terms of doing the assignments as the process on the assignment is pretty much written there. So it's very convenient when doing the assignments. Other than that it is used for reading the concepts learned in class to further explain what goes on in the lecture.

The mark breakdown consist of:
40% - assignments (5 assignments each worth 8%)
20% - midterm
40% - final

The first four assignments are lab assignments and they are done during lab time. These assignments are so easy to do with the help of the TA and fellow peers so it's pretty easy to get great marks in these. They are all done in the GIS lab but the assignments are not all done in ArcGIS like the GIS courses but one assignment do require you to use ArcGIS but it's pretty straightforward. The last assignment is an in class assignment and it is done near the end of the year. Usually it will be an certain exercise that the prof gives and everyone pretty much give 100% on them just for participation. When I took this course, our last assignment was a Facebook group where all we have to do was to post something that has to do with transportation and applying the concepts we learn in class to each of the post we made. You are just mark for participation if you post stuff in the group and this group is open for the entire semester.

The midterm and final exams are pretty straightforward if you study well. It consist of multiple choice, some short answer questions and one long answer question. There are some calculations you have to do on the test but if you remember the process on how to do them, it will be a breeze to do them.

Overall a very straightforward course and this is the class where I received my very highest mark in my university career. I recommend this class to anyone interested in continuing on from the second year course. I will attach the course outline for this course if you want to look into this course further.
