Guess what I have?!?!
So, today, in the mail, I received an odd looking envelope which holds my ticket to mcmaster (literally)... I got my "Student ID Card." My question is: can I use it? as in now? this very minute? or will the buses (or the libraries/athletic facilities) kick me out if I don't pay/share my identity?

You can use it at the athletics center to get in. But you cant use the gym eqmt until you actually get membership in Fall. However who can still use the Bball courts and squash courts.
You dont really need your student card for the library.
As for the bus, you only start using it in September.
So i guess you could start using it as of right now, since you are a fully register student.

That's true...i got lucky when I got my student card in the summer. I was able to travel around Hamilton for free...but since it wasn't September yet (it was August) some drivers didn't let me on the bus :/

you need it for the library if you plan on taking out books. You can also use it for campus health if you are ill and around campus.

Also it is handy for getting student discounts at places, but besides the bus and the gym, the card doesn't do much. Sorry to burst your bubble!

It actually says on the card that its valid Sept-April, therefore you can't actually use an undergrad student card on the bus during the summer months. Even a summer student sticker (for undergrads) doesn't get you on the bus.

Actually, my card only says 2012-2013, besides I can't use it anyways, since I'm in Waterloo

That's true, but sometimes the bus drivers are nice enough to let you on the bus at summer time..even with a Sept-April sticker. Some drivers didn't let me on, while others did...that was 2 years ago, not sure if they are stricter now.
The drivers in downtown Hamilton were much stricter than the ones on the Mountain when I tried using my card (with the Sept-April sticker on).

Make sure you bring some cash/coins just in case you get an unkind/strict bus driver.. they're told not to officially accept student cards as passes until late August; people using the cards right now are either lucky or they've purchased a discounted student pass.
Also, the mac card only works for HSR buses, not GO buses.
