Help Please
Hi,
So this year thus far hasnt really been all that great. My marks for term 1 are terrible and I failed calculus. Now I have to take it in the summer, yay! But anyways, I have a question that I am hoping someone will help me out on. Term 2 is really bad as well because of one stupid course....PHYSICS. It's harder than calculus already and we've only just begun. I want to drop the course, before I end up with another permanent fail on my transcript but if I do that, can I just take it in the summer? I think that would be way easier. So if I drop this course, am I still considered a science student? And how do I go about dropping the course? Thanks for your time!

Hello!

I can't give you all of the answers you need exactly, as I am not in science, but I can give you many.

To drop a course, you go to SOLAR and just simply drop it. At this point, you have missed the drop and add period, so you are unable to take another course in the place. Thus, you can only take four courses this term. However, at this point you are still able to drop physics without academic penalty -- it would just be a drop on your transcript.

Yes, you can still take the course in the summer or next year if you choose.

From what I understand, you are still considered a student in Science I. However, I am not sure what this means when you are choosing your major for year II. You will need to talk to a faculty advisor about that.

If you drop the class now you may also be eligable to get some money back from the tuition you paid to take that class (as well as no academic penalty as Danielle mentioned).

These contacts may be useful. They are on the McMaster website and, depending on the program you're in, you may want to phone one of them up to ask specific questions.
