Horizons 2008
hey! i found the site for this, http://www.msu.mcmaster.ca/horizons/index.php, it seems like such a great program... I'm just wondering when the delegate applications come out. the site right now just says "Delegate Information Coming Soon"
also, how hard is it to get into? i'd love to do it, it would be so much fun
thanks!

I did Horizons in my first year and it was awesome, I really, really suggest going.
Horizons isn't based on any kind of qualifications other than being a future Mac student (eg- you'd had to have accepted Mac). There is a charge for going because they feed you, give you a delegate t-shirt and other cool stuff but in my first year it was around 100 dollars. They will most likely send you a package in the mail asking you if you would like to come to Horizons, at least that's how they did it in my first year.
Keep your eyes posted on the site in the mean time and if we (as in MacInsiders Staff) find out before you do we'll be sure to remind you!

I believe you will be getting literature about it in the mail, although I am not sure.

I remember when I got my package from McMaster that it mentioned Horizons. Unfortunately, back then I didn't know what Horizons really was and now I regret not going.

I previously covered Horizons last year.
I attended Horizons in my first year and I highly recommend it. It will allow you to network with people at McMaster that are part of many services, clubs, and groups (as most staff members are highly involved on campus). Plus you get to be in a group of incoming first year students and bond very well so you'll know a bunch of new friends before you step foot on campus in September.
I'll be helping out with the conference this year, and look forward to seeing you all there

the forms are now up! on the front page, you can just download them.
does anyone know how fast the spots fill up? because it says they work in a first-come, first-served way.

I would suggest getting your form in as soon as you can, but they usually accept forms up until July

Horizons is a leadership conference for incoming first year students at McMaster. It takes place in August, lasts for 3 days, and is a chance for first year students to (a) live in residence for the duration of the conference and see what its like, (b) meet new people going to mac, (c) learn about leadership and opportunities on campus, (d) play loads of fun activities, share experiences, and learn about yourself and your potential as a student and as a person, ultimately building you up as a leader.
That said, I took it in my first year and now am running an MSU Club that won Club Of The Year and has a primary focus of introducing you to opportunities to get involved with student life (following a similar vision as Horizons), as well as lead me to become more involved with other groups and conferences at McMaster (CLAY conference, McMaster World Congress, the CSMM student society, MSU Campus Events, and more)... so it clearly impacted me and opened me up to a whole realm of opportunities
