If you are an incoming first year student, by now, you should have received an information package in the mail for Horizons 2010. If not, it's probably still on its way.
Regardless, you may be wondering what in the heck Horizons is. In a nutshell,
Horizons: Future Student Leaders Conference is a conference run by the McMaster Students Union exclusively for students entering their first year in September.
The conference will be held from Friday, August 13 to Sunday, August 15. As a delegate, you will participate in sessions related to leadership skills and knowledge that will prove to be helpful for your first year at MAC. More importantly, you will be exposed to many leadership opportunities available to students on and off campus. This means clubs, societies, volunteerism, on-campus employment, and much more. The entire staff team is made up of upper year students who have fulfilled their desire to get so much more out of their university experience and who are enthusiastic about giving back to the McMaster community. We've all been told that that the post-secondary experience goes beyond just academics, so a big part of the conference is devoted to that aspect. Finally, you will hopefully get to know the campus as an intimate setting, as you meet upper years and fellow first year peers and share the weekend to get to know your home for the next few years. It's all about helping to ease your transition as you embark on the next step of your academic careers.
Registration occurs on a first come, first served basis. There are a limited number of spots open for delegates so register early! There is an early bird fee of $185 (as opposed to the regular $195) if you mail in your registration package by July 16. The deadline for delegate registration is August 6, though spots have always been filled before that date!
You don't need to wait for the mail-out to register. All necessary forms are available at:
