KASMANI WINS RECOUNT
A recount of the MSU Presidential Campaign ballots took place last night. What was the result? Azim Kasmani became the new winner. The new tally: J JONES - 1739 KASMANI - 1835.
If you remember back when we had the preliminary count, Jerimi Jones won by 8 votes to Azim Kasmani. This small margin of ballots gave way to a motion for a re-count. After the recount however, some interesting numbers seemed to have emerged. That 8 vote margin now became a 96 winning ballot margin. From eight to ninety-six? How did that happen? Well, if you look at the numbers, it appears that the number of spoiled ballots decreased significantly from 245 to 123. Thus, the difference must have come from a bunch of spoiled ballots which somehow became valid.
The Elections Committee released this statement today: "After a thorough and detailed recount of all ballots which were cast in the 2008 MSU Presidential election, the Elections Committee has ratified Azim Kasmani as President-Elect of the MSU. The recount was conducted in a very organized and detailed manner, with several practices in place that ensured all results were checked and rechecked several times. The Elections Committee is confident with the accuracy of the results of this count".
