I've had dells, Lenovos, Samsungs and Macbooks.
In terms of brands
my top choice would be either a Samsung or Apple notebook.
They were the most durable and performed really well.

I personally think that if you are smart with your laptop you shouldn't have any problems. A lot of people criticized my Dell laptop but throughout the 4 years of university, my laptop out-lasted/out-performed my friends laptops which were HP, Dell, and Mac.

You'll be fine with a dm4 model I think. dm4-something's are usually rated decently.
HP is getting better, their Folio 13 is one of the highest rated ultrabooks (except the Mac's I suppose).
But HP is not a very good company and their products are not always the most reliable.

Hp has really stepped up their quality control recently and produce excellent products. The best laptop in the 13 inch form factor would be the Asus Ux32vd. The reason why i say this over the sony z is the gpu is fairly capable. The 13 inch macbook pro is one of the worst laptops available at its price range. it's 2012 1280*800 should not exist. If os x is what you want go with the 13 inch macbook air or retina pro.

I'm looking for something with intel i5 or i7 or amd a8 or a10, ram with at least 4g, and 500gb of storage or more. Also, a decent battery life.

Those are her considered choices. Notice they are PCs not Macs...

You said she clearly stated she is looking for a PC and not a Mac. That isn't the case here.

There are plenty of sites you can watch shows on. If you are looking for sports, firstrowsports.eu has basically all sporting events on their site. every sport every game. If you want shows, a popular website is ch131.com. They post each new episode from a show about an hour or so after it has completed its airing. For shows that are a bit older, I have used tvduck.com in the past. but there are plenty of sites you can watch any show on

Thanks. Are all those free? And is it possible to watch a particular channel (say, Star World) on the computer?

YUP! They all provide you with multiple links to the shows. The sports website you can choose any of them. On ch131.com, there will be video players on the page of the episode you click on so you just click play, and on tvduck.com, a list of sources appear and you just choose one. You will find on tvduck.com that some links work while others dont, and eventually will learn which ones to choose
