I took this course because Dr. Dej was teaching it. I have taken several of her courses before and liked her teaching style and fairness in terms of tests. This course was pretty similar to her previous courses. The material was quite interesting as it not only relates to genetics but how it effects the environment in terms of morals and ethics. The tests were fair, some of the questions were actually very easy (straight from the powerpoint), easy concepts. The assignments and quizzes were def a mark booster. Overall I recommend this course.

Here is the breakdown:

3 Tests (18%)
2 Movie Reviews (6% each)
Quizzes (7%)
MinuteGenetics Video (14%)
Online Test (5%)
Opinion Piece (6%)
Learning Portfolio (2%)
NO EXAM

This is a great course. Because it was a new course, it was a little disorganized, which was expected. Regardless, Dr. Dej was very fair and forgiving when things were unclear. She is a great prof and explains things very clearly and answers all questions until it is made clear.
The content is VERY interesting which makes you think about it and actually remember it. Everything connects back to society and the things that we can relate to. This makes studying for tests a lot easier because you basically just need to refamiliarize yourself with the information by reading over your slide notes.
Going to class is a must because there are some slides that just have questions listed on it that are discussed and answered in class.
Assignments and quizzes are very easy to do well in and will boost your mark. There are a couple of assignments but they are enjoyable to do as crazy as it sounds because they are on interesting topics/movies. Also important that you do the quizzes yourself because the tests will have very similar questions... Good to study the quiz questions.
Highly recommend!
