Instead of subscribing to Mac's long distance company, can i just buy long distance prepaid phone cards instead?

You can buy the cards if you want.
Last year I used SelectCom (with Mac) and paid 6.9 cents/min within Ontario.

I was going to do that but President's Choice cards are 4 cents/ minute and there's no monthly fee like there is with SelectCom

I know a bunch of friends who use long distance cards, they can be purchased at local convenience stores that are close to campus, and I believe you can also buy them on campus as well. The convenience store on King St near the subway sells them for good prices. Intersection of main street and marion ave.

You can't install a phone in residence. You are to use the residence phone provided for you, as it has your extention on it.

If you have a cellular phone, go get a deal from http://www.text2talk.ca
I use it everyday. It is a very good Canadian service. Cheap, too.
