I feel bad, but I agree with Tailsnake. I would probably lie. It depends on a lot of things though. Do you REALLY need/want this job? Or is it just something to make a few extra bucks and pass the time? Is it a big company that can easily replace you? Or is it a family-owned company that counts on you being there?

If I NEEDED the job and it was my last resort, I would probably lie.

I consider a short-term job that I don't make a whole lot of money, don't get many skills, or don't get a reference to be worthless.. if you have to lie to get a job, and that lie gets uncovered, you just wasted not only your employer's (which if you're an ass, doesn't matter to you), but your own time for a couple hundred bucks.

Students and unemployed people already have a reputation for being shady and less valuble and as a result has to be heavily screened... why would you help enhance this stereotype?

If I were applying for a part-time job, I would tell them that yes, I am returning to school in September, but would also let them know that, as of right now, I would most likely be able to work come September. That way, if you find that you can't handle balancing the job and your school work, you can probably leave with no hard feelings, as opposed to guaranteeing them that you can work, then leaving them without finding a possible replacement.

I meant "needed" as in "I won't be able to pay my bills/I will get evicted if I don't pay" kind of thing. Not needed as in "I really need to buy a new Xbox game".
While it sucks to encourage a bad stereotype, IMO, some things are more important. And to me, having a place to live is more important.

I'm not saying I would for sure - it depends on a lot of things. But if I had absolutely no other choice, I might. I've never been in this situation and I'm sure most of us never will be. My answer was meant to be more hypothetical.
