				Mark better than expected

Has anyone ever recieved a grade and thought "holy, how the hell did I get that GOOD of a grade?!"

I for one, never experienced this...it always turns out worse then expected

I always expect the worst possible outcome, so yes, I have been pleasantly surprised many times.

Last semester I was sure I was gonna get a 5 or 6 in a class and I ended up getting a 10. I also remembering getting an essay back with an A and actually disputing it with my TA. We had a sit-down conversation about why I deserved that mark. I was pretty sure I deserved like a B+ instead.

That's because you over-expect. I am not trolling. Seriously, once you start aiming lower, you will get higher and experience that "holy, how the hell did I get that GOOD of a grade?!".

I try and expect the worst possible outcome. So you can probably understand how upset I was when my 2nd year Finance mark was even lower than that.

But not to say that you should actually aim lower. I always calculate my grades going into the exam and the minimum marks I need to achieve each grade point. I find it really helpful because I know exactly how well I need to do in each course. This way I can allocate my resources efficiently to receive the highest average possible. If the exam is worth very little (like 30%) then you get huge gaps between the different grade points (like 15%). It may be easy to get a 75 on the exam, but extremely difficult to get a 90. So I wouldn't dedicate too much time for that course assuming I've been getting good grades (like 85) on the midterms.

It also helps in what you expect to get. Generally you don't expect to do much better or much worse than how you did on past midterms if you allocate the same amount of resources as your past midterms.
