Even if the one cash one debit system is utilized I really don't think there is any physical space in the store to create a second line up...

With that said good luck to Mary, I'm sure everyone will be waiting to see what happens in the next year.
Oh trust me, A LOT of people buy stuff from Union Market because they accept debit cards. I don't have much money since I don't work so I usually end up having around $15 in my bank account. You can't withdraw that and plus, the machines on campus charge you for withdrawals. Not only that but your bank charges you too if you withdraw from another machine. So yeah, the whole debit card thing is actually really convenient.

Agreed. It costs money to have a debit machine in your store, so UM wouldn't do it if it wasn't worth it.

I'm the same as Nino... I NEVER withdraw money unless it's from a Scotia machine, simply because I don't want to pay the charge. I think many students would be the same way, and therefore moving to cash only would actually reduce business, which is not anyone's goal here.

On a side note. For voting why not have a website to vote. Each student enters in they student #/macid and votes. Also maybe an email through MUSS about election days just as a reminder? I'm sure this has been thought of before.
Don't worry that is definitely happening for sure!

As I mentioned in my SRA report I have completed the research for online voting for the MSU back in December. We are looking at either getting the UTS MacVote system(which is used in their Senate and Board Of Governor seat elections to a good degree of success) or around 3-4 Third Party Options(Integrated with MacID ofcourse).

The CRO and myself were supposed to present it at the first meeting in January but he got busy with school work and then the house leader recall hearing was scheduled for that meeting so we had to postpone it till after presidentials. It might be coming up for approval/debate end of February. We might get it for March SRA elections or for next year.

It will definitely not be part of the MSU website "overhaul" as it is being loosely called though, it is a separate project.

There's many things big and small. Mostly I think we need leadership that treats the students as more than just a big piggy bank for their projects.

I absolutely don't want to lump Mary into that group already, she hasn't even started to start yet, and in the end I'm happy that my 3rd choice won.

Or credit cards.

I use a credit card at UM so I don't get paid fees from my back.

Dear all,

I just wanted to take the time to address some of your concerns. I realize there are going to be many people who are disappointed with the results; I gather that I was not the MacInsiders favourite, and I know that Ash and Kieran were both phenomenal candidates with strong ideas and excellent character. With that being said, I am fully committed to this union and to the students within it. I do not expect unconditional support and acceptance; I welcome your feedback and criticism.

If there is one thing I can ask of you is to keep your comments as constructive as possible. I readily acknowledge that both the MSU and I are imperfect; but with continued student feedback, we can strive to do better. So be critical. Voice your opinion. Make sure you are telling us not only what is frustrating you, but also how this could be improved.

As for incorporating the ideas from the other platforms: I was quite impressed with some of the ideas brought forward by other candidates. Within the next few weeks I am going to see if each candidate would be willing to sit down with me and talk about forming our collective vision of the MSU. As hard as I tried to develop a platform that would address all student needs, there is certainly room for improvement. I came in with a vision for the MSU, and students were at the core of it. I welcome opportunities to improve upon this.

One thing I stressed in my platform is the need for collaboration. While only one candidate can win, if we can work together to fine tune my platform so that it best addresses student concerns, then we all stand to benefit. There is no reason the majority of our goals need be antithetical.

Finally, I'd like to congratulate all of the candidates in this year's election. It was an honour and a privilege to compete with a group of highly qualified, intelligent and hard working individuals. This process is rigorous and often unforgiving. I'd like to suggest that everyone of us should be incredibly proud of what we accomplished.

Yours,

Mary

Noooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooo (and so on).

The only time I ever buy anything at school is with my debit card at UM. I can't take money out of the ATM without being charged $3 ($1.50 from the machine, $1.50 from my bank)!! I would go insane without the debit machine at UM.

I'm pretty much on the same boat. Almost every other store at Mac accepts cash only, so it's extremely convenient that UM accepts debit and credit. If UM accepted cash only, certain students would probably not go out of the way to save a few cents and just purchase their items (or not at all) at the many other stores at Mac, thereby destroying some of its business.

Realistically speaking, getting even 1% upset over this election is completely pointless.

It's the MSU, it's almost as insignificant as our University (almost). Most of Mary's campaign promises will fail miserably, and I don't expect anything more.

Relax guys. 25% of Mac students voted for one reason- because 75% of us don't care.

**Edit**

The MUSC is the dirtiest building on campus, why is that? Those contract cleaners do a bang up job.
