Click here for a variety of courses at McMaster and how other students find them in terms of difficulty, course load etc.

Lol, I love the comments. I was expecting them too. A bird course for one person doesn't necessarily equal a bird course for another. Just keep an open mind at that. Generally if you did well in a subject in first year then that would be your best bet. Otherwise you'll have a pain.

Math 1A03 was a bird course for me, not so for other people I know though.

can anyone help me with this question?
A food pathogenic bacteria (E.coli O157:H7) culture initially contains 100
cells and grows at a rate proportional to its size. After two hour the popu-
lation has increased to 500. Find an expression for the number of bacteria
after t hours.
I got k=0.8
so the eqn was p(t) =100 e^0.8t but that aint one of the options.
any help?

Your equation is right. k = 0.805.

What were the options? Maybe its not in the form P(t) = P(0)e^kt but rather a simplified form.

P(t) = 100(4.1)^t
b) P(t)=100(5)^t
c)p(t)=100(squareroot 5)^t
d)P(t) =(squareroot4)^t

these are the options... am i making a stupid mistake sorry this is also an option P(t) = 100 (squareroot2)^5t
thankssss

Oh. Answers C.

k = (ln 5)/2 = 0.805
Instead of subing in the 0.805 sub in the other one.

P(t) = 100e^((ln 5/2)*t)
P(t) = 100*5^((1/2)*t)
P(t) = 100*sqrt(5)^t?

Goodluck on your test!

Apparently it was tougher this year than in previous years.
