Hey guys,
so i'm taking a course where i really need to use MATLAB but i don't have it installed on my laptopand i don't wanna use the computer lab everytime. Does anyone know where i could download a copy of MATLAB? Is it free for McMaster students?

Its not free for students -- you're going to have to download an illegal copy by torrenting if you want to use it without purchasing. Discussion of warez is not permitted, so I'll leave it at that. A free, legal alternative is 'octave', but I don't have much experience with that so I couldn't recommend it.

Octave is not much different from Matlab, nearly identical syntax. I believe any Matlab code is also valid Octave code, but not vice-versa. It's almost a C/C++ situation, just a much smaller difference between the two than that.
