Matls 4T04 - Materials Selection

The textbook was online from the library for free!! Hooray!!!

Dr. Kish taught this when I took it. It's not normally his class, but he did a good job and kept it entertaining. Real-world applications make it interesting, and we did a lot of example problems in class to help with assignments and projects. TAs were also fantastic for this - we needed a LOT of help, and going to the full tutorial time was NOT optional if you wanted to understand the problems and how to solve them after about week 2.

We used CES, the computer program, a LOT. (Had to buy it) I'm pretty good with picking up computer programs, so I was pretty good with it.

• Assignments – 15% (weekly, but helped you keep up on how to do stuff)
• Quizzes – 10% (two @ 5% each) (not difficult. no resources allowed though! gotta practice the night before)
• Project #1 – 15%
• Project #2 – 20% (these were done alone - basically huge assignments with a few more variables you could choose yourself based on what you wanted and what constraints you chose)
• Final Project – 40% (with 2 other people - can be hard or difficult depending on what you choose to do. A good project should have a structural and thermal component - our group did a ski helmet - assumed 1/2 sphere - and did very well with not toooo much work... under 12 hours)

Had a good time with this course. Enjoyed going to it and working on assignments from it.
