Medical Radiation Sci
I hope to get accepted into this program next year! I am currently in grade 12 and have a few questions for those who are already in the program...

1) Is the course load hard? Is it true that first-year students must maintain a 5.0 GPA to get accepted into second year?

2) How do you like the course overall?

3) What high school marks did you enter this program with? (if you don't mind answering)

Medical Radiation Sciences I Course Requirements

The above link will give you course descriptions of the courses you will be taking. I cannot comment on difficulty of most courses except Cell Bio and Math but looking at the second year specializations, they do say that a minimum of a 5.0 (63-66%) GPA is required but since these are all limited enrolment programs, possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Bio may be a bit harder for lot of people simply because they've introduced online modules (online lectures) and you do it before coming to class. I've noticed that this makes it really really easy to fall behind. Each module is about 40-50 minutes long like a regular lecture but they pack so much information in one lecture that I remember each module took me about 2-3 hours to actually take notes and understand what was being said. There are two lectures a week compared to other courses that have three lectures a week (because online modules count as a class). Your first lecture is a review lecture where the prof will go over briefly the material that was covered in the week's module and answer questions and perhaps add a bit more info. The following lecture is an applied lecture where you study where these concepts are being applied in the real world and experiments and other relevent research conducted regarding this topic. Applied lecture content is heavily tested and are usually short answer format so definitely know that material well and don't skip applied lectures.

joannng says thanks to Imperious for this post.

High school marks from other people in other years aren't really relevant. Due to massive grade inflation at the high school level, grade cutoffs to enter programs have increased dramatically in the last 8-10 years or so. Besides, you have already been accepted. Knowing what grades other people in your class are coming in with is pretty meaningless, especially because of the aforementioned grade inflation, as well as a great deal of variation between high schools.

Hi Joanng,

I just wanted to give you a heads up about the radiation therapy stream of the med rad program. Unfortunately, there are not accurate or up-to-date stats advertised by the university so I would like to warn you that if you are hoping to go in to the radiation therapy stream, it has a very poor job market at the moment. If you would like to know more about this, feel free to PM me.
