despite what your CA is are you allowed to fail more than 2 courses in first year life science?

As far as I know, you can fail as many courses as you want provided your average stays above a six. Although the number of failures doesn't matter, I'd be surprised if the marks in your other courses can keep you in Life Sci if you do fail three or more courses.

Actually, no.

For engineering, you can fail maximum of 2 courses per year. If you fail more than you, you will not be permitted to go on to the next year, regardless of what your average is. (even if its somehow a 10).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't find anything about number of failures in the Undergrad Calendar for any faculty.

Given that, my findings agree with what Entropy said. Under Faculty of Science (since the OP is asking about first year life sci), it says that you need to keep a minimum CA of 3.5 or 6.0 if you want to stay in an Honours program, regardless of the number of failures, from what I understand.
