National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

 
McMaster Event
Monday, December 6 in Convocation Hall, UH 213

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon • Sisters in Spirit: Tales of Survival and Resistance

A conversation with Mohawk/Irish actor/singer/songwriter Cheri Maracle from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory and Ojibway/actor/singer/writer/educator Shandra Spears Bombay

12 – 12:30 p.m. • Messages of Strength and Hope

Light refreshments

12:30 – 1:30 p.m. • Commemorative Program

We remember all those affected by gendered violence. We remember the 14 women murdered in the 1989 “Montreal Massacre”. We remember the over 500 Aboriginal women who have gone missing or murdered in Canada. Drumming and song by Valarie King of the Native Women's Centre. "500 Stars" performed by Cheri Maracle and Shandra Spears Bombay.

Thank you for co-opting the phrase "gendered violence" to refer exclusively to violence against women.

You can see the names of the girls who were murdered in the 1989 massacre on a stone in front of JHE. People occasionally leave roses.

By the way, why do we have remembrance for violence against women and not have remembrance day for violence against children ?

Yeah, lol I just realized that reading first is the best ...


I guess that's why there isn't many chicks in engineering. Oh well, at least I can concentrate peacefully during lectures.
