nervous and Lost.
Hi, Im a first year whos moving into a student house off campus, im planning to move in by Sunday evening and right now im totally confused by what il do when i get there. Im going to be about 5 min walk away from mcmaster and im just wondering if theres anything you should do first once you get there, like pick up any forms or whatever... Also I wanted to get an off campus meal card so I dont starve by night fall... theres a form for it online do I just drop it off at the specified location and get one right away...
Also the red validation sticker for the macID card, I seem to have lost it, anywhere I can get a new one?

For the meal card, go here: http://hospitality.mcmaster. ca/mea...offcampus.html
I suggest the Freedom plan
Also, it's not a separate card--your student card IS your meal card, you just need to put money onto it...kind of like a prepaid credit card.
For the red sticker, you should really be more careful with it...this year they had issues with a bunch of people not getting them, so if you tell them you never got it then you should be fine (I believe you'd go to the registrar), but usually they'll give you a hard time because that sticker can be used on fake student cards, and it's also the bus pass, so they don't want you selling yours and then getting a new one.

I lost my sticker this summer, I just had to go to the registrar's office, told them that I lost it, and they gave me a new one free of charge. I just had to sign a declaration letter saying I'm not committing fraud (such as giving it to someone who isn't eligible).

Hey aside from getting sticker, if you are planning on going to gym for sport/ workout, and you study most of the time on campus, I would suggest getting a locker for convenience. You can go to Titles and ask a staff to know when/where to line up. The lockers are pretty much available in most halls, but depending on where you have classes. I would suggest going there an hr in advance.
If you have to get OSAP, I would suggest going there early first day, or towards the last few dates of the pick-up period (shorter lineups).
Lastly, be openminded and enjoy frosh week! this is the time when you can go all out, have fun, and meet people! And definitely don't miss out Clubfest where you can join clubs and meet other students from different faculties and senior students that can facilitate your transition at Mac!
Hope this helps.

Oh yea about that, I know theres a form online for getting a membership at the gym, can I just sign it and submit it like today and start working out? Will the charge be covered by osap automatically?
Also for the meal card, Im planning on getting a freedom account, how would I get OSAP to cover the costs everytime I add money to it? Since im getting 12k from OSAP and my tuition is 9k, and Im paying my own money for off campus res, how can I get the rest of the money?
Also is it better to put OSAP into your bank account or tell them to put it into my mac account when I go pick up the OSAP documents?
wow... everyone on campus is huge... Im afraid to see how big they are at the gym lol/

Since im getting 12k from OSAP and my tuition is 9k, and Im paying my own money for off campus res, how can I get the rest of the money? I'm assuming you are getting 12k for the whole year (12k seems like a lot), so you will get your amount in 2 installments. In other words, the first installment of OSAP loan you pickup first term may not cover your 9k tuition completely. I think 1st installment is like 70% of total, so you should be expecting to pay the rest of the full year tuition from your pocket before end of september, after which interests start to incur. Your 2nd installment you pickup in 2nd term should go to your bank. When you go pick up your OSAP, you will be helped by a personnel to fill out the OSAP loan form, so make sure you have a void cheque or just bring a bank statement with account number for direct tranfer of remaining amount (I did this because I don't have cheques).
Also is it better to put OSAP into your bank account or tell them to put it into my mac account when I go pick up the OSAP documents? (see above)

I would just like to clarify. The 1st OSAP pick-up is 60% while the second is 40%.
