Physics 1B03+ 1BB3 at other universities

Assuming some of you guys took a full-year of physics courses at other universities during the summer term. What universities have good (not-so difficult physics courses- i.e I prefer the course outline to be more assignments, labs, than tests)

I heard Antabasca has an online course, but I don't know if that would be easy, since its independent learning.
York also has 1410 (equivalent to McMaster), and 1420 (both have lab components), but they only offer 1410 , any comments on this course

Thanks in advance.

Athabasca's courses have a "home lab" component...I'm not entirely sure how that works or if that would count to fulfill the "lab" requirement that some programs have for physics.

If anyone has any experience with this, I would also like to know!

physics 1028 and 1029 at western. all tests are online (enough said), and you go in for labs 2 full days in person to the campus if you take it in the summer. not sure if they offer that during the year.. i think the course average is set to be 78% every year which is probably higher than mac??

not that I've taken it, but I know people who have.

I took the 1bb3 equiv with Athabasca. (aka. PHYS 202). They ship you the lab materials. The prof is nice and responds promptly. It's more algebra based. There are 2 assignments worth 20% total and labs are 3.33% or 3.34% each and you have 6 labs. Labs are real easy and you just have to write a short report summary of ur findings, unlike 1bb3 labs which took FOREVER to write up because you had to write about quite a bit. The exam is 40% and the midterm is 20%. It's easier than 1bb3 at mac. (I know because i took both since i had to upgrade my 1bb3 mark for certain professional programs)

It is completely self learning. If you do not keep up, its your fault, but you have 6 months to complete the course which is longer than at mac and you also go at your own pace.

Midterm and exams are MC and short ans. I found it easier than 1bb3 because it had short answer so you can get part marks for questions you couldn't do completely instead of getting 0.

Also, the Athabasca course equiv to 1bb3 has some overlapping material with 1b03 at mac (eg. diffraction and light stuff) but it also has other material that 1bb3 at mac doesn't cover (like optics and lots of circuits and stuff).

However, you have to think about paying for your own invigilator to invigilate your exams. That costs $100 for the midterm and $100 for the exam... so it's quite a bit of $.

Take 1b03 at mac but i wouldn't suggest to do it with athabasca because you have to take 2 courses to equivalent 1b03 and it's definitely more expensive to do that. (plus i doubt anyone would want to take 3 physics courses...):thumbsdow n:

Hope that helps!

You got ripped off... the two times so far I have used an invigilator its been 40$ and 50$... most places are max of 50$ so dont pay more than that

I wrote it at mac and McMaster exams asked for $100 for each. It was also on the Athabasca website :( it's pricey for sure

You didn't have to have a McMaster Invigilator, I believe any professor, librarian, or even secondary school teacher is acceptable. There was another thread about it, the person also had a course from Athabasca and needed an invigilator.
