Is go-station july promo a student-only promotion or valid for anyone?
|
The promotion is valid for anyone for the month of July to encourage everyone to switch.
You will get the $6.00 fee waived only if you charge $10 onto the card. That is equivalent to 5 HSR tickets, as each one costs $2.00

I would call in and ask about prices just in case there was a mistake or even just so you can verify what the price really is.

I used the GO fare calculator and it says: Adult single-ride ticket $10.30.
The fact that I got charged $11.10 even WITH loyalty discount and student discount is a huge problem. I'll talk to them about that.
Thanks!

Apparently I do get "loyalty discount" (last column), but either way, WITH the discount is still much more expensive!
I transferred my 10-rides onto my PRESTO card, thinking it would be the same price, but that turned out as a failure...
EDIT: I'm guessing as you use it more, the loyalty discount will go up, and will eventually equal the price of a 10-ride, so DON'T transfer your 10-ride tickets to PRESTO if you want to get the most out of it

Something is definitely wrong. You tapped off when you got off the bus? Because York University is Zone 19, not Zone 60.

Yep, I tapped off. I actually got off at the Tim Hortons stop before York. Either way, it doesn't make sense!

That's because the stop before York University is in Vaughan which is zone 60. The fare from McMaster to Vaughan (Keele at Snidercroft) is 13.05. Yeah it's pretty idiotic that if you go an extra stop you pay less... You'll have to talk to someone at GO customer service about it.

Oh okay. That's stupid....
EDIT: Called customer service. They said they charge by zones and not by "distance", and the stop that I get off at is in a different zone, even though its like 1-2 minute difference. They told me they know about this, but as of now, nothing will be changed.
So for all York commuters, get off at York and not the stop before that if you don't want to be charged the extra $2.00.

For university and college students, the student classification must be added to the PRESTO card each school year. When travelling on GO be sure to have your valid GO Student ID with you at all times.

I have had this problem multiple times and I have called GO customer service. They said the same thing to me, but it still didn't solve the problem. So I ended up talking to the supervisor of customer relations after a very rude representative spoke to me. She said that changing zones is very difficult, and they are aware of the difference of fares due to the difference of zones. She said that since changing the zone lines is a long and tedious process, the GO bus drivers should adjust the pricing before you tap off at Snidercroft so you pay the $8.75 instead of the higher charge. Some bus drivers remember to and some do not. So I guess it really depends on your GO bus driver, which is incredibly stupid. Some customer representatives do not know about this problem and continue to tell you "there is nothing you can do." This zone difference and fare overcharge is stupid and I really hate reminding bus drivers to charge me the right fare -____________-"

When you ask them to change it is it a simple override they do? Do they just tell the machine to charge you as if you were in the next zone?

I didn't know you could do that. Thanks! It's really inconvenient for me to get off at York, so I'd rather not.

Some bus drivers automatically do it when you tap off because some are nice or they actually remember to, but the sad thing is you won't know if they actually do override the PRESTO machine to charge you the $8.75 until you tap off and see how much the fare was (it's the top fare amount above your balance on the actual machine). So I usually just remind them to change the price as if I was getting off York (since it is a known problem). I did however get some GO bus drivers that simply refused to do it, so to avoid an argument, I tap off and then call GO customer service until I can get a representative that is actually willing to reimburse me. I usually just wait until the the fare overcharge adds up because I ended up having $13 total overcharge once ... I mean it takes a couple of tries to actually get a voucher in the mail having them reimburse you because some are just plain rude. Try calling customer relations instead of the customer service: (416) 869-3600 because I was told by customer service that they actually can't do any reimbursement and they end up transferring you to customer relations anyways. You can also send them an email at [email protected] ransit.com and they will have your case on file and will call you (leave a number where you can be reached) within 24-48 hours. If they don't call the number I posted earlier.
