Project Hope
By EVA CHAN, MACINSIDERS
If you have been watching the news for the past three weeks, you would have heard about the earthquake that hit the Sichuan province of China. On May 12, 2008, a massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit the southwestern Sichuan province. The death toll has now reached over 69,000 and more than 18,000 people are still missing. One of the biggest devastation was the destruction of the schools. Thousands of students were killed in this disaster and many more are left without a school to learn.
Two McMaster associations, the McMaster Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) and the Association of Chinese Professors at McMaster University (ACPM), have organized a fundraising campaign entited Project Hope. Project Hope is aimed to raise funds to rebuild one school with an earthquake resistant design. The project aims to raise $75,000 within this month of June.
For those in Hamilton/McMaster right now, please feel free to stop by and donate. No matter how big or small the donation is, it will bring the funding efforts a bit further.
