random questions
Hey guys,
I was checking out the master timetable some engineering technical electives i could take next year and i noticed a lot of the 4th year courses in Materials and Mech. Engineering were not offered. And they happened to be the interesting ones' i was planning to take. Is this just a trend that the Engineering department goes through every year or are they in a crisis this year cuz they've really cut down the number of 4th year courses in Materials.

Also, how does one go about asking a prof as a reference if they've only got C+ in that course?
Im gonna start applying to a few companies next year and it would look great if i had a prof there as a contact reference. But the only nicest prof that i ever had that i can actually make contact with, i ended up getting a C+ in his course.

And whatever happened to the McMaster Lipdub?

You've only just completed first year, and 4th year is a long way ahead. A lot can happen in those few years so that may not be the case when you're in 4th year! Also, I'm not sure about Eng courses specifically, but a lot of courses are offered every other year, so they may only be offered in alternating academic years. Regarding the professor and reference, you won't know until you ask directly! Maybe the prof saw in you some quality that they think would be beneficial for a job e.g. independent, team work skills, communication, etc. which your grades wouldn't be exactly representative of. So definitely ask. What's the worst that can happen? A no? Then you can just another professor! Last I heard of the lipdiub was that they were having a few issues with approval/organization and funding. Not sure where it stands today.

Sorry! I assumed the year on your profile was accurate. Unfortunately, that might mean that you won't be able to take those courses prior to graduating then :(. Alternatively, you could contact the faculty and ask about specific courses or why they're not offered.

For Materials Engineering 4th year tech electives a lot of them are only offered every other year. You can contact Diana Maltese to ask for a list of which courses are offered which academic year, she should have something handy.
